Name: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Boys & Girls Club Community Built Playground
Date: July 15, 2022
Time: 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Volunteers from  the Boys & Girls Club of Walker County (BGCWC) and the Powell Foundation are constructing a kid-designed playground to ensure kids have a safe, inclusive place to play. This is part of a new initiative in Walker County, Texas, to support child health and environmental resilience through a series of green playground projects. The initiative will be led in partnership with City of Huntsville, Huntsville Independent School District (HISD), and the national nonprofit KABOOM!, and is made possible through a $1.5 million grant from the Powell Foundation. The two-year effort will develop seven public playspaces for children and families across Huntsville.

Community members led the creation of the playground, from design to installation. In March, kids from the BGCWC shared drawings of their dream playspaces with project organizers. These ideas were integrated into the new playground design, including native plantings that will be planted later in 2022 as part of a natural play area.

Meet and speak with representatives from the Boys & Girls Club of Walker County (BGCWC), the Powell Foundation and KABOOM! to learn more about the creation of the community-designed playground at the BGCWC.

Michelle Spencer, CEO of the BGCWC, will offer remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and will also be available for questions.
